Biography

Endowed with an elegant style, brilliant technique and outstanding musical sensitivity, Chilean classical guitarist Fernando Abarca makes of his concerts a unique experience for audiences worldwide. He has earned the praise of the critics who have acknowledged his ability to engage the audience on a journey through his music.

 

He is regularly invited to give concerts, master classes and to be a jury member at international festivals and competitions in Europe and South America. He has been awarded at international guitar competitions in Argentina and Italy. In addition to his work as a soloist, Fernando is a dedicated chamber musician. His debut album, Mosaico, made with "CLDG" Guitar Quartet, was released in 2008 receiving critical acclaim. 

 

Fernando currently resides in Munich, Germany, where he combines teaching, since 2016 at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, with his concert artist career, which during season 2019/20 includes performances in cities such as Madrid, Strasbourg, Santiago, Graz, Berlin, among others.

 

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Fernando began his musical studies in Chile at a very young age. He graduated from the University of Chile in Santiago, and during this time he played at Chile’s most important concert venues. Later, he went on to study in Europe at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg under the guidance of Marco Tamayo.
